Ted Stevens Defeated – 1 Down, 2 To Be Determined

The defeat of Senator Ted Stevens means another Republican Senate seat lost. Anchorage Mayor Democrat Mark Begich will replace Stevens in January. Congress is one seat closer to a filibuster-proof Senate with two elections still pending in Georgia and Minnesota. The departure of Stevens could be seen as sweeping the “dead wood” out of the Republican Party. It is time to renew the GOP and there is no place for a convicted felon among the conservative ranks. Time and resolve on the part of the conservative base is going to be required. Time is short and the resolve must be strong. Weak and moderate leaders can no longer be tolerated or allowed to be on the Republican ticket. Strong Republican leadership is going to have to step forward and give the party direction and purpose. Without this the GOP is going to continue to slide into the abyss of hopelessness and defeat.
