Racist Reverend Rants During Remarks
Mere minutes after the first African-American and 44th President of the United States Barack Obama was sworn into office, 87-year old black civil rights activist Reverend Joseph Lowery couldn’t resist using his national spotlight to gibe white Americans during his benediction.
‘Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around… when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right.’
While white Christian pastor Rev. Rick Warren tiptoed through his invocation in order to avoid offending non-believers, Lowery had no problem insulting a demographic which overwhelming contributed to his man’s victory. This isn’t the first time Lowery’s remarks have stirred controversy. During the funeral for the widow of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Lowery openly criticized George W. Bush for his actions even though the President was in attendance paying his respects. Lowery’s comments at the inauguration were just another sign of the tolerance for reverse racism in America and the ‘change’ an Obama Presidency is sure to bring.
