Government Resuscitation of Health Care Reform
Between stimulus bills and impending health care reform the country dives deeper into debt. The Democratic majority in Congress seems satisfied with handing Barack Obama a blank endorsement for every “feel-good” piece of legislation that comes along, if it feels good – pass it. It’s as if a group of children have been given a blank check at the candy store and told they can buy and eat all the candy they want, tastes good going down but that sick feeling from engorgement soon washes over them, by then its too late. When the sick feeling of inextricable debt eventually washes over this nation will the Obama faithful continue to embrace this country’s deficit? Enter the next round of debt.
In a rush to pass health care reform by August Americans are once again going to see a bill pushed through with total disregard of oversight or review. Let’s not forget the customary amount of pork stuffed into it as payback to political supporters. It would seem the urgency to quickly pass another bill is greater than the need for the average citizen to weigh in on this crucial upcoming debate, the very people that this legislation is directly going to affect.
There’s no denying the fact that health care reform is needed but at what price? Who’s going to pay for this? Well of course, once again, off the backs of hard-working Americans comes another proposed tax in the form of taxing health benefits that employees currently receive. Just by virtue of earning a meager income that happens to have health benefits is deemed enough justification by this government to extort another tax from middle-class America. What happened to taking the tax burden off of those making less than $250,000 a year?
Health care reform is another opportunity for the Obama administration and Democratic Party to exert government control over one more aspect of American life. Early predictions indicate that the health care proposal will affect every American and change the scope of medicine as we now know it.
One question needs to be asked and answered. Does the U.S. government really possess the ability to control the health care system?
